At Monday`s meeting of the Marshalltown City Council, residents of the Village Cooperative on Merle Hibbs Boulevard asked city officials to place two more street lights in their neighborhood. Spokesman John Reardan says the area is dark and their is concern for safety. City Public Works Director Justin Nickel cited a city policy dating back to 1973 that he felt had been met and the costs of any other streetlights would have to be covered by the residents of the cooperative. No action on the matter was taken as it came during the public commentary portion of the meeting. Third Ward Councilman Mike Gowdy said he hoped a solution to the situation could be worked out.
