The Marshalltown City Council on Monday opted to pick the old Econo Foods site at 2nd Street and West Anson Street as the potential site for a new police and fire station if voters say yes to a bond referendum in August. The vote was six yes and one no. The architectural firm of Prochaska and Associates estimated the cost of the project at some 17 million dollars. In other highlights of the meeting Council opted to table a request by proprietor Oscar Sanchez for a new liquor license for a place to be called Ugly Coyote at 102 West Main Street after concerns were raised by Police Chief Michael Tupper about incidents at another place in town Sanchez runs called Palm Beach on Lincoln Way. Council granted a request made by residents of the Village Coop adjacent to West Merle Hibbs Boulevard to install a couple of street lights in a darkened area, the city would bear the cost of one of the lights and the residents agreed to pay for the other. Police Department Administrative Assistant, Alicia Hunter, was presented the Police Department Employee of the Year Award in a joint effort by the Police Department and the Marshalltown Times Republican newspaper. Hunter received a standing ovation from the crowd on hand.
