Storms moved their way through the listening area Thursday afternoon and evening. Marshalltown ended up with 1.31 inches worth of rain. Other areas received more depending on your location. There was wind damage as well as the Beaman area had a wind gust of 65 miles per hour. Here in Marshalltown the peak wind gust was 40 miles per hour. Earlier in the day it was hot and humid during the second day of a two day heat wave. the temperature topped out at 90 degrees with a heat index that reached 108. Around the state Des Moines had the highest temperature in the state with a reading of 95. Lots of downed trees including Melbourne where an ancient tree was split in half. Power outages to boot including Poweshiek county and Grinnell where power was out for some 90 minutes on Thursday night. The good news is the weekend promises to be great with high temperatures forecast to be in the upper seventies the next three days.
