The Marshalltown area received a lot of rain Thursday at the conclusion of a two day heat wave. As of four o’clock Friday morning the rain was measured at 3.61 inches worth in the last 24 hour period. On Thursday evening the Marshalltown Police Department did issue an advisory in regard to flooded streets urging motorists to not drive through areas where there was standing water. Thursday`s high temperature turned out to be 88, around the state Shenandoah and Red Oak had readings of 95. Marshalltown had a peak wind gust Thursday night of 41 miles per hour. Much better weather is in store once the rain moves on, highs of 80-82 and 80 are forecast over the next three days. The Iowa River at Marshalltown has gone up two feet over the last 24 hours, no flood concerns though, the crest is forecast at 13.3 feet at this point at seven a-m Sunday morning which is below the action stage of 14 feet where it is monitored. Thursday morning it was at 9.66 feet, Friday morning at four a-m it was at 11.99 feet. Ed Wilson of WHO Channel 13 reported via social media a couple viewer reports of more than six inches worth of rain.
