The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to two calls on Friday. The First one was at 9 North 7th Street on a report of a house fire with people trapped. Crews were told while en route to the scene that residents had escaped the building. Smoke and fire were coming from a deck and exterior door as crews arrived. The fire was quickly brought under control. Improperly discarded smoking material was given as the cause. No injuries. Damage pegged at five thousand dollars.

Friday morning crews were called to 916 Jackson Street. Fireman upon arrival found smoke coming from a detached garage, with a resident using a garden hose to put the fire out. Crews finished putting the fire out, which was reportedly caused by embers escaping a faulty flue pipe. No one was hurt and damage was estimated at five thousand dollars.
