2016 election results for Marshall County saw Chief Deputy Steve Hoffman elected Sheriff by a convincing margin. In other races Steve Salasek was elected to the Marshall County Board of Supervisors defeating John Muller in doing so. The big upset saw Jeff Edler defeat Steve Sodders in the Iowa Senate District 36 race. For Iowa House in District 72 incumbent Dean Fisher beat challenger Nathan Wrage., and for Marshall County Auditor/Recorder appointee Deanne Raymond bested challenger Louisa Ortega. In an unopposed race for Iowa House District 71, Mark Smith picked up 8,637 votes. A glitch in the early voting numbers prevented the final numbers from being issued by the Marshall County Auditors officer until 12:45 a-m Wednesday morning. Also of note Mike Miller running unopposed was reelected to the Marshalltown School Board picking up 7,485 votes. Republicans spoke in this neck of the woods, around the state and around the nation.
