A Des Moines woman has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling more than $82,000 from the Substance Abuse Treatment Unit of Central Iowa over a two-year period.
36-year-old Amy Howell was arrested Wednesday and charged with theft, ongoing criminal conduct and forgery.
Howell was the finance coordinator for the nonprofit agency that provides substance abuse prevention and treatment services in Marshall, Tama, Poweshiek and Hardin counties.
Marshalltown police began investigating in August and say Howell stole $82,269 from the agency between April 2014 and July 2016.
Howell remained in the Marshall County Jail.
