This year makes the 50th anniversary of the death of Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. Governor Kim Reynolds will designate today as Martin Luther King Jr. Day at a celebration later today.
Kim Cheeks, with Iowa Department of Human Rights Office on the Status of African-Americans says this holiday celebrates that King taught through example.
The civil rights leader was killed in April of 1968. Iowa has been celebrating Martin Luther King J. Day since 1989.
