The last day of 2018 found one person dying on the state road, and others injured in three separate accidents.
Melanie Thompson of Avoca died when here car left I-80 near the 97 mile marker, overturning in an embankment. She was not wearing a seat belt. A passenger, 9-year old Brianna Milledge WAS wearing a seatbelt and was taken to Omaha Children’s Hospital with injuries.
Melissa Kramer of Princeton was injured when she lost control on a wintry Highway 2, crossed into the other lane and hit a second vehicle. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
In Mason City, Sidney Garcia WAS buckled in, but he was trying to elude the police. He ended up striking a parked SUV. His passenger, Terry Arp of Mason City was also buckled in and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Mason City. Arp was arrested on outstanding warrants; Garcia with eluding and failure to maintain control.
