The Marshalltown Plan Zoning Commission voted down a recommendation to rezone an area on the northeast side of town for a proposed hog buying station requested by Parks of Iowa. It was a standing room only crowd of approximately 80 people who showed up to voice their displeasure with the proposal. Parks of Iowa President and CEO Lawrence Parks stated resident fears of odor were unfounded.

Those among the crowds were not convinced, neither was the Commission.

The result was not any better for U-Haul, which continued its attempt to get permission to install some exterior storage buildings on the former K-Mart lot at Meadow Lane Mall. The Plan Zoning Commission also voted down that proposal as well

Both recommendations will now go to the City Council at its next meeting on August 26th for discussion.
