IOWA FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a man killed in a standoff in Iowa Falls was armed with several weapons.
The state Department of Public Safety says 25-year-old Leighton C. Fitz walked outside of a private house Thursday with weapons and a bullet-proof vest. He is accused of disobeying orders and reaching for a weapon. Authorities say that's when several officers shot at Fitz.
Three officers with the Department of Public Safety and two from the Iowa Falls Police Department were involved in the shooting. They are on administrative leave pending the investigation.
Authorities say they later found multiple loaded weapons and a gas mask inside the home. There also were threats toward officers posted on Fitz's Facebook page.
The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy.
