This month’s movie is a light hearted musical with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The film stars Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Jules Munshin as 3 sailors on leave in New York City. As the sailors race around NYC on their 24 hour leave in search of Miss Turnstiles Ivy Smith ( Vera-Ellen) they visit the American Museum of Natural History, the Brooklyn Bridge and Rockefeller Center and find love with Ann Miller, Vera-Ellen and Betty Garrett. Although their future is uncertain, all 3 couples share a final kiss on the pier as a new set of sailors start their leave in NYC.
Winner of an Academy Award for Best Music, Scoring of a Musical Picture and ranked #19 on the American Film’s Institute’s list of best musicals.
