The 12th Annual Healthy Family Fair: Prenatal to Preschool will be at the Marshall Town Center on Saturday, February 25th, 2017, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Several community agencies and businesses join together to host the Healthy Family Fair which aims to encourage healthy habits and promote learning in children and young families engaging them in a fun and interactive way. Children can explore the obstacle course, get their face painted, or check out the insects while their parents learn about the various resources available in the community. There will also be entertainment on the main stage throughout the day.
This year families can expect longtime favorite attractions to return to the fair including Dora the Explorer and Diego, face painting, Zumba, storytelling, the Parks and Recreation Obstacle Course, and a magic show.
There will also be several new attractions such as the Iowa State Insect Zoo, Star Wars characters, and college Mascots! The Iowa State Insect Zoo will allow guests to get hands on with some creepy crawlies and see that they aren’t so scary after all. Visitors will have to keep an eye out for Darth Vader and his companions who will be walking around the fair and are available for photo opportunities the whole day! We are excited to have Marshalltown Community College’s Tiger Mascot in attendance at our fair as well as Iowa State University’s Cy!
Marshalltown area preschools with have tables set up for parents to register their children. These tables will be located near the entrance to the fair.
Operation Safe Kids will again be at this year’s fair. This is an opportunity for parents to have their children fingerprinted and the information stored electronically. This is a project done by the Marshalltown Police Department in cooperation with United States Secret Service and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Other agencies that will be in attendance at the Healthy Family Fair are the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department with a demonstration on car seat safety, the Marshalltown Police Department, McFarland Clinic passing out thermometers, Amerigroup giving first aid kits to the first 100 families at their table.
Each child will also receive a free, age-appropriate book.
