Radcliffe Benefit Concert

Chart-topping country music recording artist and proud Iowa native Jason Brown will take to the streets of Radcliffe, Iowa, to headline a July 21 fundraising concert to help restore the town’s American Legion Hall (Post 317) during the annual Radcliffe Days celebration.

The 70-year-old community center – which has hosted countless community gatherings, wedding receptions and group events over the years – has deteriorated beyond basic repairs. The concert will be the catalyst for a large capital fundraising campaign to help repair or even rebuild the center for future generations (watch video here).

The campaign hopes to raise $300,000 for the Radcliffe American Legion Hall project, which has been gaining attention locally, statewide and nationally. A video crew will document the concert and entire restoration project, while the American Legion headquarters in Washington, D.C., plans to send a writer and photographer to cover the event.

“The American Legion Hall here in Radcliffe was once was the heart of the community, but its condition has slowly deteriorated,” said Heath Stolee, Post Commander of American Legion Post 317. “After World War II, more than 100 veterans came together to build this hall. Now it’s on our shoulders to continue their legacy.”

Stolee said the outdated building currently uses all of its annual funds simply to cover utilities, making it difficult to make necessary upgrades and large repairs.
