The parent company of Younkers, Bon-Ton, says it is looking at closing 40 of its stores in 2018.

Bon-Ton operates stores not only under its name and Younkers, but also Boston Store and Elder-Beerman. Bon-Ton reported a third quarter loss of 44.9 million dollars on Thursday.

The retailer has not indicated which of its stores may be shuttered. Younkers, which has its roots in Des Moines, has stores in Marshalltown, Ames, Cedar Falls/Waterloo and Cedar Rapids among others around the state of Iowa.
