Some areas of the state continue to lag behind when it comes to spring planting, thanks to the off and on rains that have been peppering the state.

However, that has not been an issue in Marshall County. County Farm Bureau President Allen Burt says planting has gone very smoothly with most of the corn in the ground and the soybeans not far behind.

The latest crop report from the USDA says farmers have planted 65 percent of the corn crop overall, which is four days ahead of last year. For soybean growers, they are about a third of the way towards getting all the crop in the ground.
