A record year has helped Megan Gustafson set another record. The Iowa basketball standout becomes the first player from Iowa to win an Associated Press College Basketball Player of the year award.

Gustafson is also the first Big Ten women’s player to capture the award. The six-three led the nation in scoring with nearly 28 points per game to lead Iowa to the Elite Eight.

She became only the fourth Division I player to score more than 1,000 points in a season. She tied the NCAA record for double-doubles in a season with 33.

Meantime in Ames, Lindell Wigginton has declared…again…for the NBA Draft. The Iowa State guard did the same last year, only to return to the Cyclones.

This year, Wiggington says he’s all in for the NBA, and plans to hire an agent.

Wigginton averaged 13.5 points in 25 games this season, mostly off the bench. He joins teammate Talen Horton-Tucker in turning pro.
