Direct cash cattle trade is quiet at midday.  No bids have been renewed and it looks like the bulk of this week’s business has wrapped up for the week.  Asking prices for cattle on showlists are around $105 live in the South and $165 to $170 dressed in the North.

Boxed beef is mixed at midday on moderate demand for

moderate offerings.  Choice is $.77

higher at $214.33 and Select is $.23 lower at $203.85.  The Choice/Select spread is $10.48.

At the Valentine Livestock Auction in Nebraska, this was the

first sale in a month and a higher undertone was noted.  There were several lots of weaned fall calves

and yearling feeders on hand.  The USDA

says demand was good, with some online bidders active.  Feeder supply included 55 percent steers and

64 percent of the offering was over 600 pounds.

Medium and Large 1 feeder steers 551 to 568 pounds brought $170 to

$178.50 and feeder steers 701 to 735 pounds brought $146.50 to $158.  Medium and Large 1 feeder heifers 504 to 549

pounds brought $150 to $164 and feeder heifers 601 to 640 pounds brought

$142.50 to $152.25.

Cash hogs opened steady with moderate negotiated numbers.
