Born October 7, 1937 at home in Des Moines County, he was the son of Clifford Osias Lee and Maudie “Marie” (Piper) Lee. After graduating from Mediapolis High School in Southern Iowa, Lyle enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country from 1958-1962. Lyle was a hard worker and was employed at McKesson, Osco Drug, Midland Transportation and McGregor’s Furniture throughout his life.

Lyle was united in marriage to Judy Louise Opel on October 6, 1961. Together they resided in Burlington, Manchester, NH, Legrand and Marshalltown. They celebrated 40 years of marriage before Judy’s passing in 2002. Lyle later married Doris Ilene Rennells Lee on May 19, 2005 and they lived in Centerville and Marshalltown. She passed away just this November after 15 years of marriage.

Lyle had two loves apart from his family: sports and the outdoors.  He loved all kinds of sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR (Jeff Gordon was his favorite).  Lyle enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and even mowing. His favorite singer was Garth Brooks and he loved motorcycles. Lyle was incredibly kind and never met a stranger.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Maribeth (Mark) Freland, Kim (Dave) Hilsabeck, Keri (Darin) Ashby and Jason (Marcie) Lee; stepchildren: Deb Hrubes, Ken Platt, Jeff Platt, Tim Platt and Kim Sloan; grandchildren: Randy (Tara) Price, Jill Mundt, Amanda (Dale) Telesford, Chris (Tina) Hilsabeck, Jeremy (Ashley) Hilsabeck, Tyler Ashby (Anna Hurley), Alison Ashby, Austin Lee and Alexa Lee (Taylor Puryear); great-grandchildren: Karsyn, Kamryn, Bailey, Aubree, Ava, Makenna, Malaika, DeSean, Azaria, Jeremiah, Akeela, Amani, Ezekiel, Abrianna, Peyton, Nicholis, Gracie and Bryson; great-great-grandson Israel and multiple nieces and nephews.
