There will be no new trial, at least for now, for the man convicted of killing Brooklyn’s Mollie Tibbetts. Defense attorneys for Cristhian Bahena Rivera claimed someone else confessed to the crime. Judge Joel Yates ruled that was significantly at odds with the testimony of Bahena Rivera.

His sentencing is now scheduled for August 30.  His first-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
