Mary Katherine Wathen, 66, of State Center, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the Zearing Health Care Center in Zearing, Iowa.

Funeral services for Mary will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home State Center Chapel. Mary Hagedorn was born on March 28, 1955 in Carroll, Iowa to Donald and Charlotte Arts Hagedorn. Mary graduated from the Omaha School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. On August 26, 1977, Mary was united in marriage to Rick Lee Wathen in Carroll. She was a beloved nurse, caretaker and Director of Nurses before she had to retire 18 years ago, due to health. Mary enjoyed crocheting and cross stitching, cooking and baking (known for her cookies and Chex mix), reading, and watching scary movies. Above everything else, Mary enjoyed raising her four children.

Mary is survived by her husband of 44 years, Rick. Children: Amanda (Mel) Cizek of Maine, Mike (Tanya Beach) Wathen of Urbandale, Charlotte (D.J.) Brisson of Garwin and Clint Egger of Montana; several grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one great-grandchild on the way. She is also survived by her father, Donald and her siblings: Ann Condon, Donny Hagedorn, Jane Uhlenkamp, Jennifer McGuane and David Hagedorn.

Mary is preceded in death by her mom, Charlotte and her grandma, Arlowine Jenkins.
