Patricia (Pat) Williams, 70, of Le Grand, Iowa, passed away on November 11, 2021 at Pella’s Comfort House after a short battle with cancer.
Pat was born in Marshalltown in 1951 to Ferdinand Leslie and Helen Scofield. She spent her childhood in Montour, Iowa and graduated in 1969 from South Tama High School. She went on to obtain an Associates of Arts degree from Marshalltown Community College and began working at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in 1971. She moved to Le Grand in 1973 when she married Robert Williams. Her early childhood years were spent tagging along to American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary meetings as her parents were very active officers in those organizations. Her grandmother, Mina Wittick taught her the importance of serving her community and our veterans. She was a member of the Jaycee’s in Le Grand, and a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. The first American Legion Auxiliary unit she belonged to was in Montour. When this unit was dissolved, she served in the Gilman Unity Paul Ward 149 as an active member and in several official capacities. Her proudest moments were in serving as 3rd District President, the most recent term being 2019-2021. Her love and passion for ALA and serving touched so many lives. Pat served the community through Memorial Day services, fund raisers, volunteering at the Iowa Veterans Home and sending care packages.
Pat enjoyed traveling and attending her grandchildren’s activities. She loved tending her flower garden and decorating for the holidays. She especially found great joy in making cards and crafts with her friends.
Pat is preceded in death by her grandmother, parents and her brother, Richard. She is survived by her daughters, Jennie (Brent) Pahls of Sylvan Grove, Kansas and Marie Williams of Pella and six grandchildren: Hannah, Mina, Kenneth, Jesse, Lorin and Michael.
Funeral services for Pat will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Veterans Home volunteer services program. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Pat and her family. Pat was greatly loved and will be missed by many.
