Betty Oleta Walters, 88, of Marshalltown, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021 at Grandview Heights in Marshalltown.

Funeral services for Betty will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be prior to the service, starting at 2:00p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association. Betty Rhoades was born on November 14, 1933 in Elkhart, Kansas to Charles Lee and Gatha Martin Rhoades. She attended school in the Green City School District in Missouri. On February 24, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to Carl Eugene Walters in Green City, Missouri. Together, Betty and Carl farmed in Missouri and later moved to Iowa, where Betty worked at Fisher’s for a short time and later at Meekers Laundry and Woodbury and Hoglan Schools for 30 years in the custodial department. Betty enjoyed crocheting, gardening and weeding, being outdoors, animals and spending time with her family. She will be missed by many, as she knew no stranger.

Betty is survived by her children: Sherry (John) VanDeWoestyne of West Branch, Patsy Snyder of Albion, Mitzie Westphal of Albion and Clint (Rosan) Walters of Albion. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Carl; sister, Dessa Gifford; brother, Dale Rhoades; parents, Charles and Gatha; two son-in-law’s: Tate and Robert; great grandson, Jesse Snyder; infant great grandson, Jon Eckheart, and a sister and brother in infancy along with many other close family members.
