Paul Leroy Swartz, 78, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics and under the care of Hospice Compassus.

Funeral services for Paul will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown (casual dress). Visitation will be on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Paul’s brother, Steven Swartz. Paul Leroy Swartz was born on December 17, 1944 in Marshalltown to William L. and Ellen L. (Parsons) Swartz. He graduated from Traer-Clutier Community Schools in 1964. Paul served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1965 until 1969. Paul married, but was later divorced. Later in life, he was honored to call Debbie Nichols his loving friend for many years. Paul had been employed with Emerson’s/Fisher Control from March of 1965 until his retirement in June of 2007, where he had worked in the factory and later as a foreman and supervisor. Paul loved working on cars and driving fast! He enjoyed going to the Good Guys car show in Des Moines, pheasant hunting, and just spending time together with Debbie.

Paul is survived by his loving friend: Debbie Nichols and her son, Matt; siblings: Steven (Linda) Swartz of Marshalltown and James Swartz of Waterloo; grandson: Tanner Anthony; great-grandson: William Anthony; son: Scott Swartz; sister-in-law: Wanthana Swartz of Oregon and niece and nephews: Jonie, Aaron, Mike and Ryan and their families.

Paul is preceded in death by his son: Gregory; parents: William and Ellen and siblings: Robert D. Swartz and JoAnn Swartz.
