Gregory T. Counts, 57, of Clutier, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with family by his side.
A Celebration of Life for Greg will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. followed by full military honors at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Gregory “Greg” T. Counts was born on April 24, 1965, at the Evangelical Hospital, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Garrett and Karen (Manifold) Counts. Greg grew up in Marshalltown and attended MHS where he graduated in 1983. The day after graduation Greg joined the United States Air Force and served our country honorably for four years until his discharge in 1987. While he served in the United States Air Force, he was stationed for two years in North Dakota and two years in England as a security specialist. On May 3, 2003, Greg was united in marriage to Laura Ansonia in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Greg was employed for Meskwaki Casino as a pit boss for twenty-eight years. He was a member of the American Legion in Clutier, Iowa. Greg was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, music, going to car shows, and spending time with family. Greg also liked board games, and enjoyed Friday game nights with the neighbor kids at Grandma Fisher’s house and always looked forward to the Saturday morning breakfasts that followed. Above all else, Greg was a great friend to everyone.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of almost twenty years, Laura; his children: Daniel Counts, Garrett (Kimberly) Counts, Eric Ansonia, Tikki (Josh Humphrey) Purk, Ronald (Christina) Barkalow, and Jenniffer (Aiden Kapayou) Barkalow; his mother: Karen Counts; his grandchildren: Summer, Nathan, Victoria, Lane, Rambo, Rocky, Syncere, Izabele, Scarlett, Jonathan, and Kora. He is also survived by his siblings: Angela Mull, Rebecca Counts, Robert Counts and Roxie Kurian and his nieces and nephews: Britney (Devin Horton) Thompson, Alyssa (Zane Harvey) Thompson, Kaden, Braxton, Dawsyn, and extended family members.
Greg is preceded in death by his father: Garrett; his siblings: Rick and Gerald “Gary” Counts, and his maternal and paternal grandparents as well as many other extended family members.
