About 2,000 players from throughout Iowa have gathered in Waterloo for a five-day pool tournament.
Two levels of a downtown convention center were crammed with 140 pool tables as the annual Iowa Operators of Music and Amusements Pool Tournament kicked off.
Top players and teams in each category have a chance to win over $122,000 in prize money. Skill levels range from first-timers to experienced players who have competed in the tournament for years.
Attendance has steadily grown over the last decade due to the popularity of the tournament itself. Reggie Horak, the vice president of Automatic Amusements in Waterloo, says he’s already considering different options for expanding the event to accommodate more players.
