Taxes and Marshalltown

As promised at Monday night’s City Council meeting, the Marshalltown City Council issued a news release regarding the tax rate for the upcoming budget year.

The tax levy, as voted on Monday night, will remain unchanged at $15.28 per one thousand dollars of taxable value.

Regarding the issue how the city will treat 911 wages, which will now be taxed via the new E911 commission, City Administrator Jessica Kinser stated in the release that city “…still has a very minor $15,000 deficit in the General Fund even after removing the $450,000 wage expense…”

The next public hearing on the City’s budget is Monday, March 5th at noon in the Council chambers.
