The Grundy County Sheriffs Department reports a semi accident along Iowa Highway 14 at rural Conrad in which the vehicle struck a popular restaurant called That Place. Chief Deputy Tim Walthoff reports the driver was not hurt but the building sustained some $10,00 – $15,000 in estimated damage. The driver is identified as 63-year old Thomas Michael Shumate of Davenport who was going south bound when his truck was affected by a gust of wind and jackknifed and left the road hitting the building. It happened Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. Shumate was driving for Hawkeye Building Distributors. He was charged with Failure to Maintain Control. Proprietor Jeff Deneui of That Place says damage superficially impacted the building and they will be open for business during their normal hours.
