New Marshalltown Parks and Recreation Director, Anne Selness, presided over her first meeting of the Marshalltown Parks and Recreation Department Commission on Wednesday. Selness was in her third day on the job. She told Marshalltown Broadcasting she had a chance to visit all the parks in the city and also analyze the programs being offered and was very impressed with both. Selness says there will be a volunteer effort to carry out park cleaning in town each week starting next week. The Aquatic Center is looking to be well-staffed with lifeguards this summer due to the fact that more applications have been accepted. The softball program is poised to get underway about the middle of the month of May. A softball association is overseeing operations for the first time this year as facilitated by the Parks Department.
