The Marshall County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday met with representatives of Marshall County Crime Stoppers on the subject of raising funds to install some security cameras at some key locations in Marshalltown. Mike Schlesinger of the Crime Stoppers Board of Directors told the Supervisors the idea here came from Dubuque where a successful effort to put in cameras was made that has grown through the course of time. He says theoretically the cameras would be put in at locations along the three viaducts in Marshalltown. Schlesinger says funds would be raised by the Crime Stoppers with proposals for help made to the City of Marshalltown and the County of Marshall. The rough cost of getting a program started would be around 60-thousand dollars. Meanwhile the Supervisors voted to uphold a ruling by the County Zoning Commission to deny a request for variance in a signage ordinance for signs in rural Marshall County. There were three small business people that spoke in favor of a variance at the meeting, Supervisor Denny Grabenbauer said he would not vote against the reccomendation of the Zoning Commission.
