The Marshalltown Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Mid Iowa Drug Task Force and SATUCI want to encourage everyone to, please get rid of all unused or expired prescription drugs. Saturday April 29, 2017 is National Drug Take Back Day and events are being held all over the country to help facilitate the safe removal of prescription drugs.
In Marshall County, we are fortunate to be able to accept prescription drugs 24 hrs a day 7 days a week thanks to the efforts of the Mid Iowa Drug Task Force in applying for and receiving a grant in 2014 to acquire a Drug Drop Off Box. One of these boxes is located in the lobby of the Marshalltown Police Department, and a second Drug Drop Off Box is now located in the lobby of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
The drop box resembles a mailbox and is available for use by any resident. It is a safe way for residents to dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs safely.
The Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force asks that anyone dropping off items to remove all labels with identifying information from the bottles before disposal to help protect your identity and the privacy of your personal health information and make sure that the caps are secured tightly. Needles, liquid, biohazard items, and trash are not to be deposited into the drug box.
Prescription drugs may be dropped off 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is an anonymous service and contact with police personnel is not required. The box is checked daily and the contents will be collected and prepared for disposal that is eco-friendly and in accordance with Federal and State laws.
