The Marshalltown City Council talked about the state`s new fireworks law that goes into effect on June 1st. Both Marshalltown Fire Chief David Rierson and Police Chief Michael Tupper said the law will be tough to cope with. City staff was trying to reach a consensus as to how to react and what to do. Chief Rierson says fireworks will cause chaos and Chief Tupper says things would be difficult from and enforcement standpoint. Council heard from the architectural firm of Prochaska and Associates about the police and fire station project, Construction Manager Mike Walter of Story Construction says changes have been made in order to stay within budget most notably a reduction in the size of the second floor of the building. Lieutenant Rick Belile was named the Marshalltown Police Department Employee of the Year as presented by the Times Republican Newspaper and presented by reporter Mike Donahey.
