A festive day in Marshalltown as the Iowa State University Solar car paid a visit to the city Saturday. The vehicles arrival was enthusiastically greeted by onlookers as it parked on Main Street directly in front of the Marshall County Courthouse. A group of students accompanied the solar car that is powered by the sun. The Marshalltown Company sponsored the appearance here. They provided activities for the youngsters that included building their own solar cars. There was music on the Marshall County portable stage. Vendors were also on hand. Marshall Company C-E-O Joe Carter says they were very proud to arrange the visit by the car which is called Penumbra, it had been in Gladbrook the night before at the annual Corn Carnival there and was to spend the rest of Saturday after the Marshalltown visit at the Iowa Speedway at Newton. ISU student Dylan Neal who is the Project Director for Team Prisum at Iowa State says they are spreading good will and information to people as they are getting ready to participate in an event in the Australian Outback in mid October.
