City of Marshalltown officials held a ribbon cutting event Thursday to symbolize the completion of refurbishing work at Mega 10 Park. Parks and Recreation Department Director Anne Selness says the renovations included a childrens garden and upgraded playground equipment. One of the speakers at the event was Mike Schlesinger, publisher of the Times Republican newspaper who told the audience that the mega in Mega 10 Park stood for Marshalltown Economic Growth Association when the park was created. Another part of the project with the repainting of a Chicago and Northwestern railroad caboose which was given to the city in 1996 by the railroad.
