The Marshalltown School Board heard an end of the fiscal year report from Director of Instruction Dr. Lisa Stevenson: she says 23% of the student population was chronically absent between preschool and the 12th grade in 2016 and 2017. Dr. Stevenson says the number of students bullying or harassing other students is trending downward. The total number of drop outs last year was 97. The board approved the transfer of 52 thousand dollars from the general fund to the activity fund which generated discussion, the issue causing the deficit was the cost of transportation. School Board approved the purchase of an Apple iMac lab for use by the high school art department at a price tag of 28-000 dollars and set a time for a public hearing on Phase two of the Roundhouse project of August 21st at five p-m. It appears things are a go for that project.
