Polls opened at 7:00 this morning for the state’s primary election and, as you may have heard, there is a new voter verification process being rolled out.

Voters are nearly two thousand precincts will be asked to show a form of state ID.

Another difference is that there are THREE party primaries today (Tuesday) — one for Democrats, one for Republicans and one for Libertarians. Libertarians reached “official party status” in 2016 when their presidential candidate got at least two percent of the vote in Iowa.

To retain “official party status” — the nominee Libertarians pick to run for governor on the November ballot must get at least two percent of the vote. As of June 1t, 10-thousand Iowans had registered as Libertarian voters.

The polls remain open until 9:00 p.m. Coverage of the results of your votes will begin after that, during the 9:00 hour on NewsTalk 1230 KFJB.
