There were some tense moments on the ISU campus last night after officers responded to reports of armed suspects near the campus.
The Ames Tribune reports ISU Police sent an alert at 9:53 pm. on a report that two possibly armed individuals were seen with what appeared to be a handgun and a rifle near Frederickson Court. Officials later sent out an alert specifying up to four suspects.
After two hours of searching with assistance from Ames Police officers, ISU sent out an “all-clear” and said the weapons were airsoft guns.
ISU Police Chief Michael Newton said officers took one subject into custody and four of the airsoft weapons, and are interviewing further subjects as part of the investigation.
