Fareway Stores has announced it plans to build a new store near downtown Ames to replace the existing one at Sixth Street and Burnett Avenue, which will be demolished.

The Ames Tribune rporets that the Boone-based grocery company said it has acquired a house, an adjacent lot, at 602 Clarke Ave., which will be demolished and the space used for the construction of a new 24,000-square-foot store. The current store is 20,000 square feet, company officials said.

The plan is subject to approval by the city of Ames.
