To demolish or not to demolish? That was the question last night at the Marshalltown City Council meeting as the future of the home of the Senior Citizen’s Center was discussed. Per the City’s insurance company, it would cost one-point-two million to rebuild the building, damaged in the tornado, back to its pre-July 19th condition. Insurance would play approximately six hundred thousand dollars for the building to be razed.

City Administrator Jessica Kinser recommendation to inform the insurance company the intent would be to demolish the building was passed by the Council, with a formal resolution due at the next Council meeting. Discussion on another location for the Senior Citizen’s Center centered on the Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum, which is being repaired/rebuilt.
