More changes, more cuts coming to Unity Point Health-Marshalltown’s operation. As of November 30th, the Intensive Car Unit at the main campus and the Bistro at the south side location will discontinue operations. The average census of the ICU unit is one and the Bistro is operating at a loss. Year-to-date the hospital is looking at seven million dollar loss; more than twice what was anticipated. Part of the issue, according to Jenni Friedly, President of UPH Marshalltown is that local folks are going elsewhere for their medical care.

These closings will impact 15 employees, who will be helped to find other positions with Unity Point Health. There will be ten other non-patient positions which will be eliminated as well. The hospital says it wants to continue to focus on the core services of primary care, emergency services , urgent care, obstetrics and outpatient procedures.
