A new report says the number of folks who gamble in Iowa continues to increase.
The UNI Center for Social and Behavioral Research did the study for the Iowa Department of Public Health. The report says nearly 74 percent of us gambled during the pasts 12 months…and that over 13 percent of those who gamble are “at-risk” for problem gambling.
A companion document titled sports betting showed about 9% of adult Iowans either bet on sports or played fantasy sports. In this combined group, 23% were classified as at-risk gamblers, higher than the overall gambling at-risk percentage of over 13 percent. The results were released with the advent of legalized sports gambling just one week away in at least one state casino.
