Nearly $3 billion of direct payments to farmers through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program have been made as of Monday.
Joel Johnson is the Farm Service Agency executive director for
Michigan.
“It’s not a first come first serve situation where you have to worry about getting in there before the money runs out or something like that, but you should be aware that the deadline for the application is August 28.”
He says farmers can expect about 80 percent of their payment
to be made upfront and the last 20 percent could be readjusted.
