COVID-19 has changed the agricultural risk environment. Brett Cooper, the head of INTL FCStone’s Asia Commodities Division, says growers and ag businesses will have to consider the impact of the pandemic when managing risk in the future.
“Whether it’s COVID-19 or something else, you need to look at what’s available to protect your business from an event such as this,” he says. “At the end of the day if there is a means out there to give your business more protection from something that is unexpected, it’s worth considering.”
Cooper says volatility of commodity prices
are typically driven by the production side, but some COVID-19 challenges are
driven by demand destruction.
