Wheat harvest is underway in southern Kansas.

The Kansas Wheat Commission says early reports indicate a good quality crop in that area, with exceptional test weights and average to above average yields. Protein levels are reported to be slightly below average.

A spokesman for the Mead Coop
in Meade County said yields in his area are going to be above the five-year
average. He described test weights as “phenomenal” with a house average of
nearly 63 pounds so far.
