
Direct cash cattle trade is quiet following Monday’s light business. Bids and asking prices have yet to surface today. Showlists this week are lower in the South, but higher in Nebraska/Colorado. More packer interest could surface later today, but more significant trade may hold out until Wednesday or later. There was a very light trade that developed on Monday at $152 to $155 dressed, but that’s not near enough to establish a trend.
Boxed beef is weak to lower at
midday on light demand for moderate offerings.
Choice is $1.75 lower at $212.31 and Select is $.26 lower at
$204.04. The Choice/Select spread is
$8.27.
At the Callaway Livestock Center in Missouri, compared to
last week steer calves 450 to 500 pounds were $8 to $10 higher, 500 to 600
pounds steers were $5 to $7 higher, and 650 to 850-pound steers were $3 to $5
higher. Feeder heifers 400 to 550 pounds
were $3 to $8 higher and 600 to 700-pound heifers sold with a higher undertone
on a light test.
