The USDA says cotton producers planted fewer acres this year, while rice acreage was up modestly.
Upland cotton came out at 11.990 million acres, 1.551 million lower than 2019, on higher supplies, lower prices, and decreased water availability in California, pushing planted area for all types to a record low for that state.
Planted area for all types of rice was 2.921 million acres, 381,000 above a year ago, with a 32% jump in long grain varieties, including a 23% year to year increase in Arkansas, the top long grain producer.
