At midway through the growing season, Arkansas farmer Dow
Brantley says the rice crop is looking pretty good. “We were off to a slow start with another wet
spring,” he says. “But the crop is clean
and looks good. We’re back to what I’d call
our normal acres. We have 1.4 million
acres in Arkansas and that’s a big increase from last year.”
He also raises corn, soybeans, and cotton. “Our corn is a couple of weeks away from
terminating irrigation and we’re about 5 weeks away from harvest,” he
says. “Corn looks great and cotton is just
starting to bloom so there’s a long way to go yet on our cotton crop.”
Brantley farms about 30 miles southeast of Little Rock,
Arkansas.
