The U.S. Dairy Export Council says record ingredient sales of
nonfat dry milk and skim milk powder during May led to a two-year export high
for the month.
Shipment volumes were 18 percent higher than 2019, totaling
more than 210,000 tons in May, with values up eight percent to more than $585
million. Southeast Asia remains the
number one export market for U.S. dairy products.
Nonfat dry milk/skim milk powder exports were up 24 percent from
last year and the most ever for the month of May. Sales from Indonesia, the Philippines and
Vietnam nearly doubled and are more than double to the region compared to 2019.
Whey exports were 17 percent higher than 2019, on par with
previous months with all of the growth coming from Chinese demand, up 153
percent from last year. Shipments of lactose
were up 18 percent and cheese exports were seven percent higher.
