Across the Corn Belt, showers and thunderstorms dot the upper Midwest. Meanwhile, very warm, dry weather is causing some problems in the eastern Corn Belt with soil compaction, especially in areas where corn and soybeans germinated when soils were soggy.
On the Plains, showers and a few thunderstorms across northern portions of the region are maintaining generally favorable growing conditions for spring-sown crops such as barley and spring wheat. Meanwhile, locally heavy showers in Texas and environs are providing beneficial moisture for rangeland, pastures, and summer crops.
