A series of cold fronts will spark occasional showers and thunderstorms across the eastern half of the country, with 1- to 2-inch totals possible in some locations. In contrast, little or no rain will fall from the Pacific Coast to the High Plains. Building heat will accompany the dry weather across the southern High Plains and the Southwest, leading to worsening stress on rangeland, pastures, and rain-fed summer crops. Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of near- or above-normal temperatures and near- or below-normal rainfall across most of the country.
